While Chinese students in inland cities demonstrate against Japan, burning the Japanese flags and destroying the shops and stores with the Japanese brand names over Senkaku Islands, the Chinese people flock to the Japanese pavilion at Shanghai Expo.
This shows the widening gap between inland cities and coastal cities in terms of job opportunities the college students have. According to the Japanese TV news, there are a growing number of college graduates only with some part time jobs living together in small apartments. Those students are called “蟻族”in Chinese, literally meaning ants living together in a small place.
The Chinese government is now trying to contain students’ demonstrations simply because China is afraid that they might develop into anti-government movement.
